Day 1
After a few hours’ flight, you’ll be warmly greeted at the airport by your driver, who will take you to your hotel. Antananarivo is a city that spreads out over the hills of the Malagasy highlands, comprising a lower town and an upper town, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Day 2
After breakfast, departure for Miandrivazo via Antsirabe and Betafo. Miandrivazo is the starting point for all excursions on the Tsiribihina River. The Malagasy King Radama I, returning from his conquests in the south-west, sent his soldiers to find a princess he wished to marry. Meditating on the hill, when asked about his anxiety, he replied “Miandry vazo aho” (I’m waiting for my wife), which gave the town its name. And Princess Rasalimo finally arrived! Arrive in Miandrivazo at the end of the day and spend the night at your hotel.

Day 3
The start of the descent of the Tsiribihina river (1h transfer + day’s descent by barge)
After a delicious breakfast, you’ll set off in the morning from the Masiakampy pier, located 1 hour’s drive from Miandrivazo. Settle into the barge and begin a beautiful river cruise. The Tsiribihina River is famous for the “Fitampoha”, a ceremony of the Sakalava dynasty of the Menabe in which royal relics are bathed. After lunch, you enter the gorges, where you can observe the first lemurs. You’ll stop on the banks at around 4pm to set up camp on a large sandbank bordering the forest. You enjoy a good dinner before sleeping in tents.

Day 4
To the rhythm of the “mora mora”, we set off to discover the Tsiribihina Gorge, then climb through the forest to reach the natural swimming pool, the “Nosy Ampela waterfall”, where it is of course possible to swim. Then a visit to a typical West Begidro village to discover the way of life of the villagers. In the late afternoon, we set up our tents and enjoy an evening of folklore with the villagers.

Day 5
After breakfast, enjoy a final half-day descent to reach the village of
Belo sur Tsiribihina via Berevo. Enjoy a tasty lunch on the barge before continuing on to Bekopaka. Your driver awaits you at the Tsiribihina jetty to take you to the village of Bekopaka. Cross the Manambolo River by ferry. On arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy a free evening.

Day 6
After breakfast, departure for a pirogue excursion on the Manambolo River, between caves, stalactites, stalagmites and the famous tomb of the traditional family of the Vazimba tribe. Next, we explore the Petit Tsingy, a foretaste of the Grand Tsingy. The Petit Tsingy is home to 53 listed bird species, some unusual reptiles, around ten varieties of lemur and, as its star, the Decken, identifiable by its white color. Six species of lemur are endemic. After the visit, return to your hotel. Night and breakfast at your hotel.

Day 7
Departure to discover the Grands Tsingy, 17km from Bekopaka. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990, it is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular sites on the Big Island.
The Grand Tsingy are very sharp, pointed limestone rock formations up to 60 m high, dark grey in color. A marvellous site forming a cathedral of sharp limestone. For walking enthusiasts, the Andamozavaky circuit is particularly appealing: it’s a 3-hour walk from the village of Bekopaka, which stands out for its ecosystem: extending over a vast area of more than 70 hectares, it’s a veritable limestone labyrinth, the result of millions of years of natural erosion. This ancient city of the Vazimba, ancestors of the Malagasy people, has now become a sacred site for the region’s inhabitants. This tour takes you through secondary forest, caves (bring a headlamp), diaclases and panoramic views of this unique massif. We cross a suspension bridge. The whole area is perfectly safe, and the National Park provides safety harnesses. If you’re not too tired, you can continue the walk on a recent circuit called Broadway, which takes less than 1 hour through underground galleries. Alternatively, to discover the Grands Tsingy in a shorter, less “sporty” way, the 2/3-hour Ranotsara circuit offers a panoramic view of the Grands Tsingy. Return to the hotel after the tour.

Day 8
After breakfast, departure for Kirindy via Belo sur Tsiribihina and two ferry crossings.
Arrive in Kirindy mid-afternoon and check into your hotel.
The Kirindy forest reserve is noted for its rich flora (medicinal plants, precious wood trees, baobabs, etc.) and high level of endemism.
It is also a safe place to observe various types of animal species, including lemurs such as the Sifaka (Sifaka) and the Fosa (Cryptoprocta ferox). It’s also home to many birds, six species of nocturnal lemurs including Microcebes (berthae and murinus), Lemur-chat (phaner), Vositse (giant rat)…
At around 7pm, we depart for a nocturnal tour of the reserve: you may be lucky enough to spot Fosas, the small fawns endemic to Madagascar. You can also expect to find Hypogeomys antimena (large rodents) emerging from the ground to take advantage of the cool night air.

Day 9
After breakfast, before reaching Morondava, visit the Kirindy reserve. Day lemurs, Verreaux’s sifakas, brown makis and interesting bird species such as white-headed artamies and barking vangas are on the menu. If you’re lucky, you may also encounter rare reptile species such as the Laborde’s chameleon and the small land tortoise.
Continuation to Morondava after the visit. Stop at the Sacred Baobab: A sacred baobab stands out among those lining the trail. Locals come here to make offerings and honor their ancestors. According to legend, the gods didn’t appreciate the overweening pride of the baobabs. They decided to plant them upside down, with the roots in the air. Next, we discover the so-called “love baobabs”, which, according to local beliefs, can bring good luck to couples. The most striking species here is the Adansonia grandidieri. To round off this rich and beautiful day, stop to admire the sunset over the famous Baobab Alley before setting off for Morondava in the early evening.Overnight and breakfast at your hotel.

After breakfast, a morning stroll through the water city of Antsirabe will allow you to soak up the atmosphere of the Highlands before continuing on to Fianarantsoa.
Stop in Ambositra. This small high-altitude town is the commercial crossroads of the Zafimaniry tribes. Visit a woodcarving and marquetry workshop. After the visit, continue to Fianarantsoa, where your trip to Madagascar ends. Night and breakfast at your hotel.

Day 12
Departure after breakfast and transfer to Fianarantsoa station. The train to Manakara departs at around 07:00. This is a car-train dating from the 1930s, with an average speed of 20 km/h and peak speeds of 40 km/h. You’ll be carried through picturesque Madagascan landscapes: rice paddies and emerald tropical forests, winding and hilly roads, villages with typical dwellings and street vendors, this train journey is an authentic and disorienting plunge into the Malagasy universe. This day is devoted to discovering the Pangalanes Canal by traditional pirogue with oars. Along the canal, you’ll discover the life of this wild, lush region, where a ceaseless ballet of pirogues carrying goods or travelers unfolds. Visit several remote villages and discover their way of life and daily occupations: fishing, canoe building… Picnic on a sandy lagoon where the canal joins the Indian Ocean. Possibility of swimming in the cove.

This day is dedicated to a visit to Ranomafana National Park. The park is home to many endemic and medicinal plant species. The park is renowned for the presence of small grey hapalemurs, attracted by bamboo. The black and white Vari are also a feature of this day’s visit. The village of Ranomafana is also famous for its hot springs. You can relax in the village’s hot pool after your visit. Night and breakfast at your hotel.

Day 16
After breakfast, early departure for Ambalavao, one of the most important livestock markets in the south. This market is held on Wednesdays and Thursdays only. Visit the Antaimoro paper mill and silk factory. Around 10 km from Ambalavao, visit the Anjà reserve, managed by the local population, to observe the Makis Catta. Then on to Ranohira.
You pass the “Portes du Sud”, two rocky points marking the entrance to the south of the island on the RN7. Check-in at your hotel on arrival in Ranohira. Night and breakfast at your hotel.

After breakfast, transfer by vehicle to the park entrance. Isalo Terrestre National Park is a unique ecological representation within the Madagascar National Parks network: a ruiniform massif of continental sandstone dating from the Jurassic period, with its typical geomorphology and endemic rock vegetation (Aloes, Euphorbias, Pachypodes, Kalanchoe…) and the specific fauna of this exceptional habitat (rock reptiles, the vast majority of which are endemic). After breakfast, departure for Ifaty via Tulear. Southern vegetation gradually takes its place in the landscape: baobabs, aloes, euphorbiaceae, impressive herds of zebus and the tombs of the Mahafaly ethnic groups. Mushroom villages of sapphire miners spring up in these desert expanses. Amidst the semi-arid landscapes of southern Madagascar lies a verdant forest landscape known as Zombitse. This national park is home to the Coquerel’s Sifaka and many species of birds, including the Coua. Arrive in Tuléar, visit the Antsokay Arboretum and transfer to Ifaty.

Breakfast and continuation of the rickshaw ride to meet craftsmen and embroiderers and discover the cathedral. Continuation south. After your breakfast, you will go for an excursion in the National Park of Ranomafana with a local guide. This Park is known for its hot spring. After the discovery of Ranomafana, continue towards the South of Madagascar by taking the RN7. Stop in Ambalavao to visit Anjà reserve, a place for an appointment with the Makis cattas, the emblematic lemur of Madagascar. There are also many chameleons… This reserve was the refuge of the Bara people and one can see the caves where they used to live as well as several traditional tombs. We leave National 7 to reach the valley of Tsaranoro. Check-in at your hotel and overnight stay.

After breakfast, do not forget to put on your walking shoes for a tour of the Tsaranoro Valley. We start with a walk through the forest, passing at the foot of the cliffs. The descent is very steep and caution is required. These gigantic granite domes are an extraordinary spectacle, especially at sunrise and sunset. You can also come across Makis catta. In front of you, the cliff of Tsaranoro: 800m of granite peak, the biggest of the world climbing tried it, to the great curiosity of the villagers. For trekking fans, it is possible to bypass the cliff by the South.

Morning departure from Tsaranoro with your driver to reach the village of Ranohira. You will cross a sumptuous landscape of Savanna by observing the plateau of Ihorombe and the sacred mountains. Day dedicated to the visit of the Isalo National Park. It presents many contrasts: sometimes canyons with dizzying walls, sometimes rocks with amazing shapes: a lion, a boot, a head, or a queen with her crown. Join the village of Andasibe, nestled in the eastern rainforest. Pass through Moramanga, the historic town from which the national uprising for independence began in 1947. En route, stop to visit the Peyrieras reserve, a must-see. It offers a wonderful introduction to Madagascar’s fauna, with its many varieties of endemic animals. Continue on to Andasibe. On arrival, check into your hotel. Then off to visit the Vakôna private reserve.

Discover the Andasibe National Park, a dense and humid forest known for its biodiversity. The reserve is specially designed not only to shelter the families of Indri indri, the largest lemur in Madagascar, known as «Babakoto» who invokes an anecdote about the little boy called Ikoto (the guide will tell you a little more). You will also encounter other species of lemurs such as the Propithecusdiadema but also many birds. Get back to the hotel. A night walk of about one hour will be offered: an opportunity to see the nocturnal wildlife species of the region like the famous Microcèbe.

Visit of the Palmarium Private Reserve, between Lake Ampitabe and the Indian Ocean which extends over 50 hectares. It is home to a dozen species of lemurs, such as the Indri, Sifaka, Coronatus, Varécia, Variegata, Propithecus… living in freedom and accustomed to living together. There are also rare and endemic terrestrial and arboreal fauna and the famous Traveller’s Tree. Breakfast at the hotel, followed by a visit to Ranomafana National Park. The park’s landscape is largely made up of tropical rainforests. Alongside this lush vegetation are secondary formations that continue to expand within the park. The high humidity of Ranomafana’s climate means that the park is criss-crossed by numerous watercourses. These originate in the massif, then criss-cross the steep landscape or hills to give rise to magnificent cascades and spectacular waterfalls. They also create natural pools drowned in a dreamlike setting. Lemurs, birds and reptiles can also be observed. After a delicious lunch, continue on to Sahambavy.

Breakfast and departure for the Sahambavy tea plantation, the only one of its kind in Madagascar to date. A local plantation guide welcomes you and accompanies you on a tour of the plantations and the various machines to explain the different stages of tea processing. You’ll see how the leaves pass from machine to machine, until the final tea product is bagged and ready for export. After this visit, you’ll take the road back to the colonial town of Antsirabe.

day 1
Depending on your arrival at Ivato airport, you will be met by our driver-guide who will take you to your hotel. If you arrive during the day, you’ll be welcomed at our offices for a presentation of the trip, then settled in and spend the night at your hotel.

day 2
For your first day on Malagasy soil, we’ll take you and your driver to meet the Aïna Association, whose aim is to “reinvent the lives of these destitute children and mothers by helping them build a future for themselves”. You’ll have lunch on site with the children and mothers. In the afternoon, visit the city, its markets and the royal palace, weather permitting. End of the day and overnight at your hotel.

day 3
For this day, visit the small village of Ambatomanga «a typical village of the Highlands» in the east of the capital. Upon arrival, you are welcomed by the team of the Family House who then takes you to discover their income-generating activities (farm, cheese dairy, etc.). Lunch on site before the visit of weaving workshop with a village elder. The evening before dinner, we invite you to play Fanorona (a game typically Malagasy).

A half-day walk that takes you to the world of peasants of Ambatomanga. Free afternoon at your guest house and evening of sharing and exchange on the Famadihana. End of day and night on site.

day 5
First, we take you to discover Dieudonné and Violette’s ironworks… and its history. Along the way, we visit the aluminum foundry in Ambatolampy, where we learn just how hard the work is in Madagascar. On arrival, you are greeted by members of the Loharanosoa association. Welcome evening with the villagers and overnight in a rural gîte.

These two days will be devoted to immersion in the village of Anjazafotsy.
Morning : Participation in a project defined by the association that meets the villagers’ expectations for local development (creation or extension of a school, project to bring drinking water, etc.): part of the cost of your trip will be devoted to helping the villagers with these projects.
Afternoon: take part in the villagers’ daily activities: depending on the season, work in the fields, fishing, cooking workshops, flour-making workshops…
For the evening of day 6, an evening of culinary exchanges between travelers and villagers.
On the evening of Day 7, an evening of traditional singing and dancing with the villagers.

day 7
Last breakfast in the village of Anjazafotsy and we drive back to Ranomafana. Along the way, stop at Ambositra, capital of the arts and wood sculptures, for a walk in the rice fields and a meeting with the artisans. Arrival in Ranomafana at the end of the day, installation and night on site.

day 8
Morning awakening with the song of the birds to go and meet the first lemurs of this journey. Created in 1991, the park was included in the World Heritage Site of the Atsinanana Wetlands in 2007. A 3 to 5 hours’ walk allows you to discover several species of lemurs, birds and reptiles… In the afternoon, drive to Fianarantsoa and visit the old town before getting installed in your hotel.

After breakfast, we’ll take you to a street school run by the Vozama Association, as well as Le Relais Madagascar, where you’ll discover Malagasy cars and other solidarity activities. You then take the Nationale 7 to the village of Ranohira. Along the way, to stretch your legs, we suggest a stop at the Anjà community reserve, to help the villagers preserve the area and admire the Makis catta in their natural environment. This reserve served as a shelter for the Bara people in this region, and many traditional tombs can be seen here. Arrive in Ranohira in the late afternoon, watch the sun set over the Isalo window and spend the night at your hotel.

day 10
Day dedicated to the visit of the Isalo National Park. It presents many contrasts: sometimes canyons with dizzying walls, sometimes rocks with amazing shapes: a lion, a boot, a head, or a queen with her crown. The park is home to several species of lemurs, birds, reptiles, insects and amphibians, many of which are endemic. As for the flora, it is probably as varied as the various spaces that make up the Isalo: a dry and thorny forest, kilometers of savanna, then a lush vegetation. Do not forget to bring your swimsuit, the park also houses extraordinary natural pools.

A good breakfast before leaving the village of Ranohira towards the peninsula of Sarodrano. Along the way, you meet the miners of Ilakaka. Before arriving at your hotel in Sarodrano, we invite you to refresh yourself in the cave of Sarodrano. End of day and night on site.

Arrive in the “City of a Thousand”, with its colorful hills and rice paddies. While the upper town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the lower town is particularly lively and cosmopolitan. Transfer to hotel for first night in the capital.

Transfer to the airport for a flight to northern Madagascar. Fly over the island to the bay of Diego Suarez. Arrival in Diego Suarez, greeted by your driver who will take you to your hotel. Check-in at your hotel.

Day 3
Description 3 bays + Ankorikahely village : 8 a.m.: pick-up to drive along the coastal road, discover the Pain de Sucre, the region’s endemic baobabs and the Massif de la Montagne des Français. Pass through the village of Ankorikahely. Part of one of the two outlying villages of the new Orangia Protected Area (NAP), it lies 12 km from the town of Antsiranana on the Ramena road, at the fork in the road to Sakalava Bay. Each as beautiful as the next, these little-visited bays of white sand border a turquoise sea. In succession, discover the Baie des Sakalava and its fun boarders, the inaccessible but seductive Baie des Pigeons, and the refreshing Baie des Dunes. After a dip in the Indian Ocean, you’ll continue on to Cap Miné, where you’ll find old cannons from colonial times, an old lighthouse and a breathtaking view of the Diégo Suarez channel. You’ll then pass the beach of the former Orangea military camp before arriving in Ramena, a traditional fishing village. Lunch by the beach.

Day 4
Montagne d’ambre + Lunch at Henriette Pick-up at your hotel at 07:30. This day, we head for Montagne d’Ambre, Madagascar’s first national park, a volcanic and mountainous region located 60 km from Diego Suarez. Rightly considered a “biological treasure”, it is home to a magnificent protected rainforest, preserved from any human impact, where rich and complex nature thrives. Take a stroll along the botanical trail and appreciate the different forms of vegetation (canarium, ficus, orchids…). Meet different species of chameleon, including the world’s smallest, the Brokesia Minima Tuberculata. Then meet the lemurs (crowned, fulvus…). Discover the various waterfalls such as the Cascade d’Antomboka, the Cascade Sacrée and others, as well as beautiful panoramas of the far north of the island. For lunch, stop off at the Relais de la Montagne d’Ambre, where you can sample some of mama Mary’s delicious dishes. Return to your hotel at the end of the day.

Day 5
Pick-up according to the tide for a 45-minute drive. Along the harbor, you’ll see the Pain de Sucre, baobabs endemic to the region and the Massif de la Montagne des Français. Arriving in Ramena, board a traditional sailing and motor dhow for an hour to the Emerald Sea. Take an hour’s cruise to get there. It’s located just beyond the small pass heading north. Take advantage of the shallow turquoise waters to try your hand at snorkelling. Discover the seabed and fine white sand beaches. Relax and fish on site. Prepare breakfast with the team and enjoy lunch. On the way back, after a stop in a small fishing village, discover the marine Tsingy at the small pass. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 6
A day of discovery awaits you, heading towards the village of sahafary, where a surprising site awaits you: “les Tsingy rouges”, a spectacle resulting from the whims of wind and rain. An erosion that has been sculpted over time into ephemeral, phantasmagorical red fairy chimneys. They can form in a relatively short geological time. This is a place of breathtaking beauty, unique to Madagascar. A must-see. After lunch, head for the village of Anivorano to immerse yourself in history and discover the famous sacred crocodiles of Lake Antanavo. The scenery features lush green vegetation, rice paddies, banana trees and rivers: the walk to the lake is particularly gentle and beautiful. In the late afternoon, return to your hotel.

Day 7
The Tsingy of Ankarana are home to a wide variety of flowers and vegetation. You can descend into a cave filled with stalactites, stalagmites and bats! Take the suspension bridge and discover the endemic Euphorbia Ankaranensis.

Day 8
After breakfast at the hotel, we’re off to Ambanja. We stop off at the Millot plantation, where you’ll discover the secrets behind the preparation of the finest cocoa, and see the birth and transformation of the most beautiful perfume essences (ylang ylang, vetiver, patchouli, palmarosa). Crossing by boat to Nosy Be. In the afternoon, visit the small villages around the hotel.

Day 9
Set course for Sakatia, the authentic orchid island. Nosy Sakatia is the most authentic island of Nosy Be (protected and classified by the Ministry of Environment). Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll set off to discover the island during a 1 to 2-hour stroll: old flamboyant trees, coffee trees, pepper trees, vanilla trees, the traveler’s tree, pineapple trees, cashew trees, mango trees, jackfruit trees, guava trees, eucalyptus trees, raffia, orchids, medicinal plants, etc.). At the end of the day, you’ll be taken to relax on one of the island’s private beaches.

Day 10
Discover the town of Nosy Be by tuc-tuc: visit the market, historic monuments, the dhow port, and a short stopover in the shade of a sumptuous banyan tree, the sacred tree of Nosy Be. Then drive south through the coffee and ylang-ylang blossoms. Lunch is served in one of the island’s best-known restaurants. In the afternoon, swim and learn about braiding and masonjoany on Andilana beach, reputed to be one of Nosy Be’s most beautiful beaches. End the day with a cocktail on Mont Passot, the island’s highest point, from where you can admire a magnificent 360° sunset.

Day 11
Visit Madagascar’s pristine coastline and its miles of unspoilt beaches. Nosy Iranja is made up of two islands linked by a 2 km sandbank. It is located 1h30 by speedboat from Nosy Be, an island paradise with postcard-perfect white sand, a small traditional village and lush natural surroundings. Whales can be seen here from July to September. Take advantage of this day for snorkelling. Lunch in the shade of the coconut palms. Return to the hotel mid-afternoon.

It’s up to you to choose your program for these two days: horseback riding on the beach, golfing in the heart of the island, scuba diving or cycling along the wild beaches.
