Ranomafana Park owes its name to a small village east of Fianarantsoa. The park is first and foremost a dense rainforest that covers more than 40,000 hectares and has been part of the World Heritage Site of Atsinanana’s Humid Forests since 2007.

There are rare and most threatened species of lemurs such as the Hapalemur aureus or Varibolamena with its Malagasy name but also the great Hapalemur prolemur simus. There are also other endemic animal species such as pandadus or Myzopoda aurita, endemic to Madagascar. The relief of the park is mountainous and there are very beautiful natural waterfalls.
